For the last 50 years in our nation’s foster care experiment, abused, neglected and abandoned children have been languishing in foster care systems in all 50 states that re-abuse those children. Today, The Imprint reports 37 states reported that they send these children to hotels, government offices, and motels as emergency shelters because of the lack of placements. There is class action litigation in 26 states because of constitutional and statutory failures in these systems causing injury to foster children. Ten percent of these children, or more than 20,000, exit the systems at the age of majority after losing their parents in termination of parental rights proceedings without any family. There are epidemics of sexual abuse, physical abuse, and untold emotional harm to most of these children. It is time to reform foster care as it exists and protect the children from these tragedies.
